From very humble beginnings selling wire‑wrapped rings on Camden Market twelve years ago, to owning my own narrowboat shop and handmaking everything in sterling silver; it’s been quite a journey.

Back in 2012–2013, I had an idea in my head that I wanted to start my own business. With little clue about how or what I truly wanted to make, I moved to London. I landed in a run‑down hostel in Kennington and began talking to strangers about my idea. To my surprise, I met many others who shared the same dream. Their encouragement pushed me to start writing a plan, and in 2014 I opened my first stall on Camden Market, selling a handful of wire‑wrapped rings and some very dodgy charm earrings and necklaces. Everything was £1. I still remember making £44 that first day.

I took everything I’d learned, and that £44 and put it straight back into the stall, returning a few days later. Repeating this process, I eventually saved enough to pay for silversmithing classes at CityLit. I sold my wire‑wrapped rings during the day and spent my evenings learning traditional silversmithing. Slowly, the stall evolved until it became completely handmade quality silver jewellery.

I did this for six years. In that time, I moved back home to Shrewsbury, bought a house, and commuted to London by train. When 2020 hit, everything was thrown in the air and I had to reinvent the business, as commuting was no longer

an option. I turned to Etsy, joined a collective in Telford Shopping Centre, and travelled around the country doing festivals and shows.

Eventually, I bought a narrowboat so I could have a workshop where I could hammer without disturbing my neighbours. Who, by that point, had put up with quite a lot. Living next to a silversmith isn’t easy.

Now I have a roving trader licence for the boat and have converted it into a shop. I plan to travel the British canal network, selling my jewellery wherever I moor. As I write this, I’m on the Llangollen Canal. I’ll be here for a while due to a breach at Whitchurch over Christmas, but once it’s fixed, I’ll be moving again.

Making rings and trading are my passion, my soul, and the reason I’m excited to get up every morning.
